A hostel in Lisbon charged me 18 euros for a "late checkout" so I just left my bag at the front desk and walked around the city for 6 hours

Saved yourself 18 euros and got a free walking tour of Lisbon out of it. Honestly that late checkout fee probably costs more than the actual bed did.
