How I turned mandatory work travel into my favorite budget hack

I remember when work trips meant staying in expensive hotels. Now I use them as a chance to visit friends and cut costs. How do you turn work travel into a budget win?

My version of networking like skyler_nelson10 is just texting college friends to see who has a washer and dryer. It mostly leads to me buying them pizza for the chance to do a load of laundry in their basement, which is still cheaper than a hotel.

I read a travel blog that suggested using work trips to network with local contacts, which can lead to free lodging. It's similar to your friend visits, as both methods turn business travel into personal savings. That approach has made my own trips more fun and saved me money.

Have you heard that saying about your network being your net worth?
