Just realized my biggest travel money saver in a Lisbon hostel kitchen
I was making pasta and saw a guy from Germany trade his extra bus ticket for a bag of groceries with a local student. Now I always check hostel bulletin boards for ride shares or ticket swaps before buying anything. What's the best trade or free thing you've scored on the road?

Good way to get scammed" is a bit much. In my experience, most people in hostels are just trying to save a few bucks like you. I swapped a half-used metro card in Berlin for a really good map of the city once. You just have to use common sense and not trade your passport for a used guidebook.
