Used to book hotels through third party sites, now I call the front desk directly and ask for their walk-in rate. Got a room for $55 less than the online price in Nashville last spring.

Gotta wonder if that $55 savings was worth haggling with the front desk though...

Did you call the hotel directly or just show up? I've had good luck doing the same thing, especially at smaller places that aren't part of a big chain.
