Unpopular opinion: got dragged to a church rummage swap in Tulsa and learned to ask for the broken stuff first
I walked in looking for a lamp for my porch and walked out with a busted sewing machine and a cracked crock pot, both free, and after about 20 minutes of cleaning and a $9 cord swap they both work fine, so now I always ask what's in the back that nobody wants, has anyone else had luck claiming the stuff people set aside as junk?

Whoa, hold up. Somebody just handed you a crock pot with a crack in it and it still works? I always figured a cracked one was done for good. My grandma had one that chipped and she tossed it the same day, said it wasn't safe to cook in anymore. But you're saying a $9 cord fixed the whole thing? That changes how I look at every cracked pot I've ever passed up at a sale. I'm gonna start digging through the back bins from now on.
