Edge banding peel off on a job in Austin, 3 days wasted

I did a full kitchen with prefinished plywood and used iron-on edge banding like always. Two weeks later the client sent pics of the banding lifting on every curved cabinet door. Turned out the adhesive didn't bond to the prefinished surface because I skipped sanding the edge after the factory lacquer. Replacing all that trim took me 3 full days and I had to eat the cost. Anyone else hit this with prefinished stock or am I the only one who learned the hard way?

Those factory edges on prefinished plywood are slick as glass, I learned that on a pantry door last spring. A quick pass with 120 grit before ironing the tape costs ten minutes but saves you three days. Scuff everything, even if it looks smooth, the adhesive needs something to grab.
