Saw a post calling 90s Cartoon Network "just reruns," and I gotta push back on that
Someone in a Facebook group said last week that Cartoon Network in the 90s was nothing but old Hanna-Barbera reruns, and that is only half the story. Sure, you had Scooby-Doo and Flintstones in the daytime, but the stuff that made that channel matter was the original shorts, like the What a Cartoon! showcase that started in 1995 and gave us Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff Girls. Cartoon Network also ran Toonami starting in 1997, which put anime like Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon in front of kids who never would have seen them otherwise. So calling it a rerun channel misses the whole point of why a lot of us stayed glued to channel 45 after school. I get that people remember what they watched, but the schedule was broader than that. Did anyone else here tape Toonami on VHS, or was that just me?
