Took me 5 years to realize my muted TV was the problem

I used to always keep my cable box volume low, like 15 percent, because I thought loud commercials were hurting my speakers. Then my buddy came over, put on an old Nick at Nite marathon, and just casually turned it up to 80 percent. He said 'you watch everything like you're hiding it' and that hit me. Turns out the 'bad audio' on shows like Doug and Rocko's Modern Life was actually the low volume making everything sound muddy. Now I run it at 50 and I hear stuff I missed for years. Anyone else ever discover they were sabotaging their own classic show watching?
