35 years of shimming shutters and I just learned the bend test
Been doing Copal and Seiko shutters since my shop days in Buffalo, always shimming by feel. This week a customer brought in a Compur that kept sticking at 1/500, and I bit the bullet on the brass strip bend method. Took three tries to get the thickness right, but it's been running dead on for two days now. Anyone else still doing this the hard way or am I the last one?

You ever feel like the universe waits until you're 35 years deep into a trade just to laugh at you? I spent two decades eyeballing shims like some kind of shutter psychic, and now I find out there's a bendy strip trick that's been sitting right under my nose the whole time. I mean, sure, I could've read a manual back in '89, but where's the fun in that when you can just guess and pray? Honestly, your three tries sound like a speed record compared to me, I'd probably snap the strip in half and blame the brass for being stubborn. Glad you got it running right though, that Compur owes you a drink.
