My 6 year old tripod collar taught me a lesson about torque specs
Last month I was tearing down an old medium format body and this collar would not budge. I had been cranking on it with a spanner and even tried heat, nothing. Then I remembered a trick from a guy at a camera show in Portland 6 years ago, he said to check the fastener's thread pitch before forcing anything. Turned out I was using the wrong tool size, it was a 0.5mm pitch not 0.75. After I switched to the right spanner it came loose with barely any effort. Has anyone else fought a stubborn screw for hours only to find out the simple answer was right in front of you?
