Can we talk about that $80 'ultra-compact' camp stove that everyone raves about?

I got one for a trip to the Adirondacks last fall, and it took me 45 minutes to boil a single liter of water in mild wind. My old, heavier stove from a decade ago does it in under ten. What's a reliable, simple stove you all actually use?

Remember those cheap soda can stoves from the old backpacking forums? I still make one from two cans and some fiberglass insulation for about two bucks. It runs on denatured alcohol, so it's dead quiet and works fine in a light breeze if you build a simple wind screen from foil. It won't win any speed contests, but it never clogs and you can see exactly how much fuel you have left. Sometimes the simplest fix is going back to basics.

Build a windscreen from a disposable aluminum baking pan for way better performance.
