Damp sleeping bag got me twice, now I pack a trash bag liner

Third night at Big Bear in February and my bag was soaked from condensation even with a decent tent. Tried the whole waterproof stuff sack thing but moisture still got in from my own body heat. Has anyone else had luck with just a basic contractor bag as a liner inside the pack?

Even with a decent tent" got me. I had the SAME thing happen at Joshua Tree, woke up at 3am shivering because my bag felt like a wet sponge. The trash bag trick works for keeping OUTSIDE rain off, but it does nothing for the sweat and breath moisture that builds up inside. I started sleeping with my bag unzipped halfway and cracking the tent vent, made a HUGE difference. Honestly, the real fix was getting a bivy sack liner, but for a cheap trip, I've used a basic plastic bag as a vapor barrier between me and the bag. Just don't use a clear one, woke up feeling like a boiled egg in a Ziploc.
