Lost my job on a Tuesday and by Friday I had a plan that actually worked
Two weeks ago my boss at the warehouse pulled me into the office at 2pm on a Tuesday and said they were cutting back, and I was out by 3. That whole day felt like a punch to the gut, mostly because rent was due in 11 days and I only had $340 in my account. But here's the weird part, by Friday I had three job leads from just walking around my neighborhood and talking to people. A guy at the auto shop on Main Street said he needed someone for deliveries, and the lady at the bakery told me her sister runs a daycare that was hiring. I typed up a simple one page resume at the library, no fancy stuff, just what I did at the warehouse and my phone number. Two of those leads turned into interviews by Monday, and I start the daycare job next week at $1.50 more an hour than I was making before. It shocked me that the thing that helped most was just leaving my apartment and talking to actual people, not firing off 40 applications online like I did last time. If you got laid off recently, what worked for you, because I want to know if I just got lucky or if this is a real pattern.
