Filed my power stretcher pins at an angle, stair jobs got faster
Last month I had a job in a townhouse with three flights of stairs plus a landing on each floor. My power stretcher kept slipping on the tackstrip because the pins were worn down to nubs. I tried new pins but they still slid on the tighter radius turns. A older guy I ran into at the supply house told me to file the pins at a slight angle, like a hook shape. I did that to one set and it grabbed way better on every single step. Took me about 15 minutes with a flat file and it cut my stair time from 6 hours down to 4.5 on the second and third runs. Anyone else messed with pin geometry or do you just buy new heads every season?
