My grocery bill went from $160 to $95 a week after I started cooking beans from dry
I started buying dry beans about 3 months ago and I'm still shocked at the difference. Before that I was grabbing 4 or 5 cans of black beans and pinto beans every week at $1.29 each, and it added up fast. Now I get a 4 pound bag of dry beans for around $5 at the Kroger over on Preston and it lasts me a solid month. The first batch was a mess because I didn't soak them long enough, but after 3 or 4 tries I got the hang of it. I soak them overnight, toss them in the slow cooker with onion and a couple bay leaves, and they come out better than the canned stuff honestly. Last week I made a big pot of black beans for maybe $2 total and we ate on it for 3 dinners. Has anyone else made the switch? I'm curious if the dried lentils are worth it too because I keep seeing them on sale.
