Question about my grocery bill dropping $90 a month after I started cooking beans from dry
Six months ago I was buying canned beans at $1.29 a can, roughly 12 cans a month, which is about $15.50. Then I bought a 4 pound bag of dry pinto beans for $3.99 at the H-E-B on South Congress and it lasted me over 3 weeks. Soaking them overnight and simmering for 2 hours on Sunday gives me beans for lunches all week, and I froze the extra in old yogurt tubs. My total grocery spend went from around $340 to $250 a month, and I am not even doing anything fancy, just beans, rice, and whatever cheap meat is on sale. What else should I be cooking from dry that I am still buying in cans like a sucker?
