Vent: I was boiling my rice like pasta for 2 years and my roommate finally said something
My roommate stood in the kitchen last Tuesday watching me dump a full pot of rice into a colander and asked why there was cloudy water running out of it. I said that is just how you cook it, and she told me rice is not spaghetti and I was rinsing away the starch that holds it together. Turns out I had been using 6 cups of water for 1 cup of rice like some kind of soup chef and dumping the extra down the sink. My rice has been mushy and bland for 2 years because I never once read the bag, and now a $2 bag lasts me 3 times longer since I use the right amount of water. How did you all learn to cook rice, because I clearly missed that day of class.
