Dropped $340 on a 1930s bungalow inspection before I made an offer
The place on Maple Street looked solid from the curb, but the inspector found a cracked clay sewer line and knob and tube wiring still live in the attic, which would have run me $9k to fix. Walking away cost me the $340 fee but kept me from taking on a money pit disguised as a bargain. Has a pre-offer inspection ever talked you out of a house you were set on, or did you skip it and wish you hadn't?
