Guy at a supply shop in Akron asked why I still wire-brush flue tiles by hand, and his reason for switching to a rotary whip made me rethink my whole setup
He showed me he cuts his brushing time on a 30 foot run from about 20 minutes down to 6, and now I'm wondering if anyone here has run a rotary whip on older clay tile without cracking it?
20 minutes to 6 minutes sounds great but is saving 14 minutes per run really worth the risk of cracking tiles you can't replace? Clay tile is old and brittle, and once it cracks you're looking at a big repair bill or worse, a flue that leaks. A whip spinning at high speed inside a 30 foot run of old tile seems like a good way to find every weak spot in that liner. I'd want to see it used on tile that's just as old and worn as mine before I'd trust it.
