Just realized how many old houses in my town still have unlined chimneys.
Was looking at some old city inspection records from the 70s at the library. Found a note that over 60% of the homes built before 1950 in Springfield never got a proper flue liner installed. Always just assumed most got updated by now. Makes sense why we see so much crumbling mortar on those jobs. Anyone else run into this a lot in older neighborhoods?

That note from the 70s is probably way out of date. Most of those old chimneys have been fixed up by now, or they work fine without a liner.
