Rant: A guy in Cleveland said I should stop brushing creosote and start logging it, and I think he is right
Had a job last month in a 1920s house in Cleveland, and the guy who owns the place used to run a sweep crew back in the 80s. While I was brushing out the flue he asked me how I track what comes down, and when I said I just eyeball it, he laughed at me. He pulled out a little notebook from his truck with 40 years of log sheets in it, dates, temps, how much soot per foot, the whole deal. He said the log told him more about a chimney than any camera, and I have been sketching out my own sheet on scrap paper since. Any of you keep a log per job, or is that just a thing old timers do?
