Took me 3 years to figure out this 5 minute fix for tool height offsets

Running a Haas VF-2 at a shop in Portland and kept fighting with tool height offsets drifting on longer runs. Swapped holders, re-ran probes, even blamed the weather at one point. Finally noticed the chip guard on the spindle was letting coolant drip onto the tool holder taper during tool changes. Cleaned the taper on every holder with a scotch brite pad and a drop of iso alcohol, and the offset drift vanished completely. Takes maybe 5 minutes once a week to keep them clean now. Has anyone else run into weird offset issues that turned out to be something as simple as coolant contamination?

Wait are you really blaming coolant for offset drift that sounds like a stretch lol

Coolant doesn't cause that unless you're seeing actual rust.
