My cousin told me to skip tutorials and just build something broken, and I hate that he was right
My cousin Danny has been a dev for about 8 years and last weekend at a family cookout in Parma he watched me grind through my fourth Python video course in a row and finally just asked me what I had actually made. I said nothing yet, because I kept restarting when I didn't understand loops, and he said that was the problem right there. He told me to open a blank file and try to build a dumb dice roller, look stuff up when I got stuck, and let it be ugly. I fought him on it for two days because tutorials feel safe, but I finally tried it Tuesday night and spent 90 minutes stuck on one error before it clicked. So am I wrong for still liking structured courses, or did anyone else need to break something first before it stuck?
