Spent 3 weeks stuck on functions until a guy at a Boise library showed me one trick with print statements
I kept getting errors on this Python function for almost a month and could not figure out why my variable was coming back empty every single time. I watched like 4 hours of videos and copied examples line by line but nothing clicked, and I was about ready to just give up on coding altogether. A friend suggested I go to the library on a Tuesday for their free code help table and this retired guy named Harold sat with me for 20 minutes. He said just put a print statement on every line and run it, so I did and within 5 minutes I saw my variable was getting wiped out inside the loop. I had been staring at that code for weeks and never once thought to just watch what was actually happening step by step. Now I do it before I even try to guess what is wrong and it saves me hours. Has anyone else had a weirdly simple thing like this change how you debug?
