My aunt's instant coffee question has me second guessing my whole routine
Last Sunday my aunt visited and asked why I spend 20 minutes with a scale and gooseneck kettle when a jar of Folgers does the same job. She said she couldn't taste the difference between my $18 bag of beans and her instant, and honestly she downed my pour over without flinching. It made me wonder if I'm chasing flavor or just ritual, since blind tests online are all over the place. Is there actually a point where expensive gear stops mattering, or is my aunt just blessed with zero taste buds? Has anyone else had a casual coffee drinker crush their confidence like that?
