My dad said a $4 thrift store hand grinder would beat my electric one, and I owe him an apology
Back in 2019 I laughed at my dad when he brought home a beat up brass hand grinder from a Goodwill in Spokane for 4 bucks. I had a $90 electric blade grinder at the time and figured there was no way a rusty crank thing from the 70s could do better. After about two months of him bugging me, I tried it on the same beans, a medium roast from a shop near my apartment, and the cup was night and day. The hand grinder gave me an even grind and the electric one was basically smashing beans into dust and chunks. Now I want to know if anyone else has switched to hand grinding and never looked back, or am I just late to something everyone already knew?
