Rant: my city's new $2.1 million online permit portal crashed on day one and locked out 400 contractors
So my city up in Tacoma rolled out this new online building permit system two Mondays ago after spending $2.1 million on it. I sat at my kitchen table at 7am trying to pull a simple fence permit, and the site kept timing out on the payment page. Turns out around 400 other contractors got locked out too, and the city had to shut the whole thing down by 10am. I ended up driving to the counter in person, waited 90 minutes, and paid a $15 paper fee that the website was supposed to remove. What gets me is they killed the old system six days before the new one even launched. Anyone else deal with a city software rollout that made things worse, or did ours just break some kind of record?
