Rant: Swapped my spray foam for rock wool after a surprise attic fire scare in June
I used to trust spray foam everywhere until my buddy's place in Denver caught smoke damage from a hidden hot spot, so now I use mineral wool in any wall near wiring and I'm curious if anyone else ditched a common material after one close call?
Hate to say it but rock wool isn't really fire proof in the way people think. It won't burn, sure, but the paper facing on the batts can still char and the heat passes right through if it's not thick enough. Foam is actually worse for hiding hot spots since it traps heat in, so your gut was right to swap.
