Shoutout to the guy at the DMV in Ohio who changed my mind on voter ID
I used to think voter ID laws were mostly about stopping fraud. Then I sat next to an 82 year old man named Harold at the DMV in Dayton last month. He had a 1957 birth certificate with no middle name, and the state would not accept it as proof. Three trips. Four hours each. All to get a free ID card. I asked him if he was going to vote this year and he said "son, at this point I'm not sure I can." That stuck with me more than any article I have read.
