Dropped $1,200 on a "barn find" 1966 Mustang that turned out to be a flood car from Houston
So back in March I answered an ad on a local Facebook group for a 1966 Mustang coupe that the seller said had been sitting in a barn in Waco since 1998. He wanted $1,200 cash, no title, and said he was "helping a buddy" clear out the property. My dad and I drove out there with a trailer and the car looked rough but rust didn't seem too bad in the rockers, so I handed over the money. Once I got it to my shop in Dallas and started pulling the carpet, I found a water line about six inches up the inside of the doors and a thick layer of dried mud packed into the frame rails. The rear leaf spring mounts were toast and a guy at the Mustang club down here told me he'd seen the same car listed on Copart as a Houston flood loss two years before. I'm now about $1,200 into the car, $300 into a tow, and it's just a parts pile in my driveway. Has anybody else gotten burned by a seller using the phrase "ran when parked" as a cover story?
