Picked a $4,200 driver over a $6,800 one for my 1966 Mustang and I keep second guessing it
I had my 1966 Mustang coupe up on jack stands in my garage for most of July trying to sort out a rear end whine. Two guys I trust gave me different answers, one swore by a rebuilt 8 inch with 3.55 gears for $4,200 out the door, the other pushed a new 9 inch setup at $6,800. I went with the cheaper 8 inch because the car is a cruiser and I don't ever plan to run sticky tires at the strip. Two months and about 900 miles later it is quiet and pulls fine on the highway at 70, but I still wonder if I cheaped out. The guy who sold me the 9 inch told me I would regret it the first time I launched hard, and so far I have not. For those of you who have been down this road, did you ever pick the milder setup and actually stay happy with it long term?
