That packed express bus in Seattle made me ditch my headphones
Ngl, I used to blast music on the 545 ride from Redmond to downtown every morning. But last Tuesday, some guy's phone call about his dog's surgery got everyone on board dead quiet. We were all listening, and when he hung up, the whole bus just started talking to each other. Has anyone else had a random stranger's story break the silent commute bubble and actually make the trip better?

Is it weird that those random moments feel more real than most planned conversations? I had a similar thing on the 7 bus once, this older lady started telling everyone about her garden and how her tomatoes kept getting eaten by squirrels. By the time we hit downtown, three people were trading pest control tips and someone offered her a homemade trap idea. The bus driver even turned off the radio so we could hear the punchline about the neighbor's cat.
