Took me 3 days to figure out a 10 minute audio sync issue

Last Tuesday I tried to watch a 2 hour documentary on my laptop and the sound kept lagging about half a second behind the picture, so I spent 3 nights messing with VLC settings and reinstalling drivers. Turns out my bluetooth speaker was the problem, it had some delayed audio codec thing that only showed up on certain files. Anyone else waste a whole evening on a fix that ended up being way simpler than they thought?
