Vent: Went from a $35 thrift store acoustic to a $700 Yamaha and now I can't decide which one I actually liked playing more
Six months ago I found this beat up Yamaha FG-340 at a Salvation Army in Sacramento for $35 and the action was high as a fence but I played it every single day. Last week I finally caved and got a new Yamaha FG800 for $700 at Guitar Center, and here's the thing, the cheap one had this warm thumpy sound that the new one just does not have no matter how I set the truss rod. My wife says I'm crazy and the new one is clearly better, but I keep reaching for the old one. Is it just nostalgia or does a beat up guitar really sound different, has anyone else gone through this?
