Wrote off audiobook narrators for years, then a 14 hour drive to Denver made me a believer
I always figured audiobooks were kind of a cheat, like you are not really reading if someone reads it to you. My wife kept pushing me to try one for this long drive to Denver to see her sister, and I finally caved about 20 minutes outside Kansas City. I grabbed a mystery novel, nothing fancy, and by the time we hit the Colorado line I was actually mad we were almost there because I wanted to keep going. The narrator did different voices for every character and I could picture the whole town in my head better than I ever did with a paper book. I finished it that night at the hotel and started a second one the next morning. Now I do about one book a month in the truck between jobs, mostly while I eat lunch. So my question is, does anyone else feel like a good narrator can actually make a book better than reading it yourself, or is that just me being lazy?
