Just realized the guy who bought my $40 desk in Everett was casing my building
I listed a desk on Craigslist 3 months ago and this guy showed up 40 minutes early, walked past the desk, and started asking about my door locks and whether I lived alone. He said "nice place, you got a roommate?" and I lied and said my boyfriend was upstairs, then he left without buying anything. Two days later my neighbor's place on the same floor got broken into. Now I always meet people in the lobby of my building and never let them come up. Has anyone else dealt with buyers who seemed way more interested in your place than your stuff?
Meet people at the front door or lobby from now on, even if it feels rude, because someone who skips the item and asks about locks is not there to buy. Trust that gut feeling when a stranger gets weird about your place, and cancel the whole thing if you have to. Also tell your neighbors when it happens so everyone on the floor knows to watch out.
