That $12 headlamp from the bin at a Toledo truck stop

I drove 3 hours through Ohio to buy a used drill press and the guy said meet me at 9pm behind a closed hardware store. I almost bailed, but I had grabbed a $12 headlamp from a truck stop bin in Toledo a few days earlier, and having both hands free to check the press for cracks and wobble was the only reason I could tell the chuck was shot. He kept saying the machine was fine while I had light right on the rusted spindle, so I walked. What's your go-to cheap thing you bring to sketchy meetups?
