Hit 300 flash fiction pieces posted, learned my average word count is 412
I keep a personal tally of every flash fiction prompt I finish. Last night I hit 300 and went back through my old files to see the pattern. Turns out I almost never write under 350 words or over 480. I thought I was all over the place, but no, my brain just settles into that range. Found that stat by sorting my folder by word count in about 10 minutes. Does anyone else have a weird hidden pattern like that in their writing, or am I just stuck in a rut?
Sorting by word count is such a smart move and it showed me the same thing. When I did that a while back, I found out I almost always land between 600 and 750 words, and it took me a minute to realize that was actually helping me. Instead of fighting it, I leaned into that sweet spot and my writing got way faster and cleaner. What range did you land in, and does it feel like your natural groove or something you want to break out of?
