Vent: I tried a prompt journal and a plain notebook and the journal lost so bad
Back in January I picked up one of those guided prompt journals at a bookstore in Columbus for $22. It had tabs and little fill-in boxes and a quote on every page. I was sure it would get me writing every day. Two weeks in, I had filled maybe six pages and half of them were me writing about why the box labeled "setting" was too small. So I dug out a $1.50 composition notebook from a drawer and just started writing one prompt a day at the top of the page and answering it below. The plain one worked way better. No boxes meant no limits on how long a scene could go, and I could cross stuff out and build on it the next day. I filled that notebook in about five weeks. The fancy journal is now holding my grocery lists. Is it just me, or do structure-heavy prompt books kill the fun of following a weird idea to the end?
