Almost fell for a fake bank text at 11pm in my Denver apartment, and the link looked so real
Last Tuesday around 11pm I got a text saying my bank card was locked and I needed to click a link to verify my identity. The link had my bank's name in it and even a fake case number, so I tapped it and started typing my login info. Then I noticed the URL had a random dash in it like "secure-banklogin" and I backed out right away, called the real number on my card, and they said 3 other people reported the same number that night. How do you all teach older family members to spot these when they look this close to the real thing?
Three other people reported the same number, out of how many thousands got that text? A dash in the URL is a dead giveaway to anyone who actually looks, and you caught it yourself, so the system kind of worked. Older folks get scammed because they panic and click fast, not because the fakes are unbeatable.
