I map every dead department store in my phone now, back in 2019 I kept a paper notebook and lost it in a food court
I used to carry a little spiral notebook for logging empty anchor stores, and I'd sketch the floor layout by hand right there in the parking lot. Then I lost the notebook somewhere in the Concord Mall food court during a road trip and eight months of finds went with it. Now I just pull out my phone and drop a pin with a photo and a short note, maybe 30 seconds per mall. What changed was the speed more than anything. Last weekend I hit four spots in a suburb south of Columbus in one afternoon and had all four logged before I left the last parking lot. The downside is I have about 200 pins now and no real system, so I keep forgetting which ones I already checked. Do you all do digital logs, or is there something about a paper notebook that still works better for keeping track?
You mentioned four spots south of Columbus in one afternoon, so how do you handle it when two pins are close together and you can't tell from the map which one you already walked? The notebook had the advantage there because you'd flip pages and see your own scribbles next to each other. Have you tried grouping your pins by suburb or by the day you logged them so the list itself tells you what's done?
