The outlet mall in Charleston converted me on refurbished tech

I used to avoid refurbished stuff like the plague, but then I went to the Tanger Outlets in Charleston last month. There's a booth that sells returned tablets and laptops, and the guy let me check the battery cycles on three units right there. All of them had under 20 charge cycles, which is basically new for 40 percent off retail. I walked out with a tablet that was $310 instead of $520, and it runs perfect. What convinced me was seeing the actual diagnostic screen, not just a promise of a warranty. Has anyone else had a solid experience buying open-box electronics from those pop-up mall kiosks?
