Watched a $12 bottle of hot sauce go from $4.99 to $11.99 at the same store in 8 months
So I buy this cheap green hot sauce at the grocery outlet on Lorain Ave every couple weeks. Back in February it rang up at $4.99. Same bottle, same shelf. Last week it hit $11.99. I thought the cashier messed up so I made her scan it twice and she just shrugged and showed me the tag. Turns out the little family brand got bought out in the spring, and the new owner jacked the price and swapped the glass bottle for plastic. I have the old bottle in my cabinet next to the new one and the label is even smaller now. I still bought it because I am weak, but I stood there for a solid two minutes doing math in my head like a fool. Anybody else watching some random item they buy every week quietly double in price? Drop the item and the old vs new price if you got one.
