Can we talk about the retaining wall that ate my entire July in Wheat Ridge?
I figured a 20 foot retaining wall along my driveway would be a two weekend job, so I rented a trencher for a Saturday in early July. Turns out there was an old concrete footing buried about 16 inches down that the trencher found right away, and it took me 3 days with a demo saw and sledge just to break it out. Then we got that stretch of afternoon storms, and every time the hole filled with water I had to pump it out and wait for the clay to dry before I could dig again. All in it took 5 weekends and about $900 in extra fill and gravel before I ever stacked a single block, which is roughly three times what I planned for. Anyone else in the metro run into buried junk when digging on a slope, and how do you figure out where it is before renting equipment?
