A guy at the Detroit Regional Chamber mixer in Corktown changed how I follow up
I went to a Detroit Regional Chamber mixer at a spot in Corktown about 6 months ago and almost skipped it because I hate small talk. I ended up standing next to a guy who runs a small logistics company out of Melvindale, and we talked for maybe 10 minutes about how hard it is to find reliable drivers. He gave me his card and I did what I always do, I put it in my pocket and forgot about it. Two weeks later a woman from his office called me out of nowhere and said he mentioned our chat and wanted to grab coffee. That call turned into a $4,200 job for my print shop in Ferndale, all because he actually followed up instead of waiting on me. Now I keep a notebook in my truck and write down one thing about every person I meet at these events, then send a short email within 48 hours. It feels a little odd at first but it works way better than just swapping cards and hoping. Curious if other folks around here do something similar, or does the follow up part trip you up too?
