Blew a pitch to a logistics guy in Corktown because I forgot his company moved in January
I was at a coffee shop on Michigan Ave in Corktown two weeks ago for a quick intro meeting with a guy from a freight company, and I opened with a joke about their old office over by the bridge. He just kind of paused and told me they moved to Livonia back in January, and I could feel the whole thing go flat in about 4 seconds. Instead of trying to talk my way out of it, I pulled out my phone and updated my contact note right in front of him, which oddly seemed to loosen him up. He ended up giving me a real referral two days later because he said most people just fake their way through it. How do you all keep your notes current when a contact switches jobs or locations?
