Showerthought: the old timer at the shop in Amarillo who handed me a 9/16 wrench and just pointed
I was 19 and green as grass at a shop off Highway 60 outside Amarillo, and I couldn't get a fuel filter housing to stop weeping on an old N14. I kept cranking it down harder and this old guy named Roy, who had maybe 40 years in the trade, just walked over without a word. He took the wrench out of my hand, backed the bolt off a quarter turn, cleaned the mating surface with a rag and some brake clean, and snugged it back up. He said 'you ain't strong, you're just stripping threads' and walked off. That was 15 years ago and I still hear it every time I feel myself reefing on something. Been chasing a small coolant leak on a customer's ISX all week and I keep thinking about Roy. Any of you still catch yourself over-torquing when you're frustrated and in a hurry?
