I think calling it a "brutal waste of time" is missing the point. Actually, @graym49, that article probably showed how something small can add up in a bad way over a lifetime. But here's the flip side - if that same thing taught you a lesson or made you happier in the moment, does it really count as wasted? People spend years on stuff that doesn't kill them, like watching bad TV or scrolling social media, and nobody calls that a waste the same way. Maybe the real waste is stressing about every single minute instead of just living your life.
