Vent: My email backup plan failed hard last month

I finally got around to cleaning out my inbox (over 4,000 messages, yikes) but then realized my automatic backup had been broken since February. Lost about 3 months of archived receipts and old project threads. Has anyone else had a backup service silently fail on them like that?

automatic backup had been broken since February" - yeah that stings. I had a cloud backup fail for 6 months once. Only found out when my hard drive died. Now I do the 3-2-1 rule. Three copies, two different types of media, one offsite. Also check your backup logs once a month. Set a calendar reminder. For lost emails, you might try checking if your email provider keeps a trash or spam folder archive. Some hold onto deleted stuff for 30 days on their server. Worth a shot.

My backup plan is just hoping none of my devices actually die on me, so far so good.
