Spotty cafe Wi-Fi killed my client call in Lisbon. Are we too chill about bad internet?
I was wrapping up a video meeting from a popular cafe in Lisbon when the connection dropped completely. Had to scramble to message the client and reschedule, which looked really unprofessional. Some nomads in my circle say stuff like this is just part of the gig, and we should accept it as a trade-off for freedom. They argue that always hunting for perfect Wi-Fi takes away from the experience of a new place. On the flip side, I have friends who won't even book a rental without confirmed fiber speeds and backup options. They say our income depends on being reachable and reliable, no excuses. I love saving money by working from cafes, but moments like this make me second-guess that choice. How do you balance adventure with professionalism when it comes to internet access?

Public Wi-Fi in Lisbon cafes isn't worth the risk for important client meetings.

Checking your bank account on cafe Wi-Fi? That's actually insane. You're typing passwords and account numbers into a totally open network. One sketchy hotspot and your money's just gone.

Yeah public Wi-Fi is sketchy for client stuff. I'm probably too relaxed about it myself because I check my bank account on cafe networks all the time. Maybe I shouldn't admit that.
